Subject: ICT
Key stage: Key stage 3
Scheme of Work unit: Using ICT
1 PowerPoint
in the classroom
Publisher: Act 360 and Microsoft
Summary: A superbly presented all round guide to using
PowerPoint, unsurprising produced in conjunction with Microsoft themselves.
This extensive web page offers clear guidance and advice to both teachers and
students following ICT unit 1, 'Using ICT'. It could be used in a number of
ways, either by students with no knowledge of PowerPoint, or by those wishing
to improve specific skills. The index page links to eight separate sections,
each covering a fundamental part of PowerPoint. The whole site is presented in
the format of an annoying and amusing (depending on your perspective) US
talkshow. In its use in the classroom students have found the resource an
accessible and enjoyable way of learning PowerPoint skills. Each explanation
section is extensive in its own right, with at least four full pages of
information, all written in an easy to understand style. Students with basic
understanding of PowerPoint should be directed to unit 5, adding motion. The
presentation of this site is exceptional, offering clear, easy to follow
examples with annotated screenshots. A superb resource that will brighten up
any ICT lesson – despite of, and in the end, because of the Americanisms.
