1 Global
warming
Publisher: United States Environmental Protection Agency
Summary: This resource provides comprehensive coverage of the
issues involved with global warming. The site has sections on climate,
emissions, their impacts and what action we can take. It is suitable for
brighter pupils and is best used as a research source. Individual pupils in a
group could explore different aspects of global warming and then collate their
findings. Weaker pupils should use the section for 'kids' that is slightly
easier to navigate. Teachers should familiarise themselves with the resource
before using it so that they can suggest to pupils how they can get the most
from the site. Once pupils have explored this site, they should be able to
contribute to debates on global warming with some authority. The content of
this site is factual, although it makes an underlying assumption that we should
all be reducing our emissions of greenhouse gases. The materials include
information about carbon dioxide sinks. Many pupils would have difficulty with
the case studies, but these show them that there are economic implications
associated with the reduction of pollution. This site will certainly challenge
the brighter pupils if they have the time to explore it more fully.
